Le Viste beach
The name of this beach, which is situated just behind the port, means “The Views” and that says it all: 100m of golden sandy beach easily reached by means of a 300m-long flight of steps from the top of which are afforded spectacular views, dominated by the ruins of the Medician fortification and Napoleon’s winter residence.
As well as the wonderful views, Le Viste beach is home to a small restaurant of the same name and sun loungers and beach umbrellas are available to rent.
Le Ghiaie beach
This beach lies just behind the local park in Portoferraio and is a favourite of the locals.
No sand, just 500m of brilliant white pebbles speckled with black, making the waters along this shore absolutely crystal clear – ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. This popular beach offers all the amenities the tourist could desire.
Cala dei Frati beach
100m of white pebbly beach embracing crystal-clear waters, this small cove can only be reached by boat; quiet, therefore, even in the summer months.
There is a small outcrop of rock that separates it from Le Ghiaie beach; paradise for scuba divers and ideal for those searching for peace and tranquillity.
Padulella beach
The Padulella is one of the beaches along Portoferraio’s ‘White Coast’.
Separated from neighbouring beaches by a rocky outcrop, it is framed by a backdrop of spectacular steep white cliffs which, reflected in the clear waters, are a wonderful sight.
Capo Bianco beach
Brilliant white pebbles in front of a backdrop of white cliffs that jut out into the sea. This beautiful stretch of coast with its transparent waters is the most scenic and the cleanest on the whole island.
It was the beauty of this “White Coast” that led the ancient Greeks to christen Portoferraio “Porto Argoo”.
