Procchio is one of the most important seaside sites of the island of Elba. Around the small village centralize many accommodations including the hotel Monnalisa. It is located about 10 kilometers from Portoferraio and 5 km from Marina di Campo, and approximately 15 minutes by car from Marciana Marina. Procchio beach is one of the largest and most popular beaches of the Elba: the beach resorts offer all facilities (such as sun-beds, beach umbrellas, bar and toilets). For those which looking something more from the normal holiday, here you can find diving center, boat rent, sailing and wind-surfing schools: everything you need to enjoy your summer holiday! Nighttime the most popular hangout is the “Salotto di Procchio”, a covered square perfect to have a drink, chat, meet new people and where to start the movida in the near clubs.
Some interesting facts about Procchio: in the eastern area, far from the seashore, it was found one of the most important and documented relics of the Roman period. The shipwreck occurred around the year 190 AD and the relict, in which were found preciuos finds, was known as “Barca di Tacca” perhaps from the name of the owner. Another interesting curiosity is the cenacle that the artists of the caliber of Giorgio De Chirico, Renzo Rambaldi, but also Iginio Gonich (Gonni) and Beppe Lieto, instituted in a well-known restaurant, where there are still murals, paintings and the famous written “Here Napoleon the Great has never eaten. Never!” with an ironic drawing of the great leader.
Spartaia
Just 850 meters from the Hotel Monnalisa and about one kilometer from the center of Procchio, is located the beach of Spartaia, which gives its name to the locality. The place is definitely worth visiting, both for the beauty of the landscape, and for the clarity of the water. Spartaia is a small beach of fine golden sand, formed by the space between two promontories, in a small and very characteristic bay. The main feature in this wonderful beach is without doubt the depth, slowly sloping, which makes it very appropriate for children. A little further away, about a mile and a half from Spartaia, there is “La Paolina”, another beach to visit, reachable by a path ending directly on the beach, near the island having the same name.
